The “food shop with seats” at The Isle of Skye Baking Company in Portree is a relaxed, family-friendly café serving the bakery’s renowned lunch breads alongside its cakes, scones, soup, quiche, shortbread hearts, oatcake wedges, and range of specially blended teas.
Established in 2007 by Liza and Barry Hawthorne, The Isle of Skye Baking Company handbakes everything fresh on the premises, as well as making a range of jams and chutneys. What’s available changes daily and getting in early is recommended, as when it’s been eaten, it’s gone for the day.

Find #barrythebread at the local food market on the square in Portree every Thursday. in summer, at the Inverness Farmer’s Market on the first Saturday of the month, and Poolewe market every Tuesday from March .

FIND IT: On the road from Portree towards Uig and Dunvegan, look for the little lane opposite the petrol station and behind Howdens (between the traffic lights and roundabout). Walking from Somerled Square in the village takes about 12 minutes. Plenty of free parking.
Open February to December, summer hours 10 to 5ish, winter 10:30 to 4ish, and by appointment.
