Originally from Kyle of Lochalsh, Claire Rooney graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in 2006 with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art (painting). She lives in Balmacara, just outside Kyle of Lochalsh.
‘I like to take my paints and easel out in to the environment to try and capture the ever changing Highland light. As the weather can often be quite challenging, I will take photos back to the studio where I work on larger pieces.’
‘I am drawn to the play of light on a hill, a reflection in the sea, a sunset or some interesting clouds. How light transforms a scene from one moment to the next is a constant fascination to me.’
‘Still lifes hold a similar allure; the light absorbed, reflected, diffused and diffracted plays with colour and edges. Each new composition is an opportunity to see and to learn.
‘ I am currently developing a new direction subject-wise, and will be sharing some of this on my social media as I progress.’
